Sugar cut in new Coca-Cola

Coca-Cola is unveiling a new product with 35 per cent less sugar and kilojoules than the regular drink.

"Coca-Cola Life", the fourth drink in the trademark's 128-year history, blended sugar and stevia. Stevia is a sweetener and sugar substitute extracted from the leaves of the plant species Stevia rebaudiana.

The product will come in green packaging and be available in several bottle and can sizes.

Coca-Cola South Pacific marketing director Lisa Winn said the drink was "a great addition to the Coca-Cola family.

"We've achieved the taste you'd expect from Coca-Cola with 35 per cent reduced sugar and kilojoules, compared to Coca-Cola," she said.

"Coke Life isn't simply a new product from Coca-Cola -- it's another great choice for people who want a delicious Coca-Cola to fit their lifestyle."

Coca-Cola Life will be in New Zealand stores shortly.
