In this article I'll give you 3 solid reasons why lifting weights can help you burn loads of calories, change your body shape and help you feel stronger, without looking all 'bulky'.

Walk into any gym and you'll see women walking or jogging on the treadmill. The treadmill seems to be very popular because it looks like you're doing work.

But let me ask you this:

How much change have those women really experienced?

How have they truly transformed their body? More often than not very little change is happening.

The same is true for most of the cardio machines in commercial gyms, they make exercise easier and to the point where the machine is doing a lot of the work for you which reduces your results.

Here's three simple tips that you can use to add to your cardio routine to get the most from it:

Reason 1: Resistance training is fantastic for changing the shape your body

Along with burning lots of calories, lifting weights allows you to transform the shape of your body in a way that few other methods can.

Typical cardio programmes may get you short-term weight loss but your body never changes - you just become a slightly smaller version of yourself not only that but cardio actually burns muscle and the less muscle you have the harder it is for your body to burn calories.

Reason 2: You feel stronger

This point can only be fully appreciated by those that are lifting weights and see the benefits of this in their lives.

Every human should be stronger. The stronger you are physically the stronger you become mentally, there is a powerful carryover effect from lifting weights that challenge you.

When you lift weights that are challenging, lifestyle physical challenges decrease.

If you have to carry or lift things it becomes a lot easier or if you get a sore back from certain activities then you can reduce or eliminate that pain.

Reason 3: Great for calorie burning

There are certain exercises that when you do are incredibly taxing on the body and create a massive caloric burn.

Exercises like: squats, deadlifts, overhead pressing, bench pressing, clean and jerk are fantastic for creating a strong body, changing body shape and creating a killer calorie and fat burning environment.

When you do these exercises in combination with intensity you can create what we call ‘the afterburn effect" which means that your metabolism will be working overtime and chowing down on calories for up to 38 hours!
