Movie locations appear to be having an influence on New
Zealanders' travel destinations, with the animated sequel
Madagascar 3 in particular making an impact.
Travel website Hotels.com has analysed search results and
discovered that searches on Monte Carlo jumped 92% in the 12
months to September last year, a period that included the
release of Madagascar 3. The Hotel de Paris and Casino
de Monte-Carlo featured in the animated film.
Searches on locations in the Bond movie Skyfall also
spiked. London was up 66% and Istanbul 37% in its month of
release, compared with the same period the previous year.
The beaches of Hawaii that featured in the George Clooney
film The Descendants appear to have provided a boost
for that destination, with a spike of 64% in Hotels.com
searches.
The latest Spiderman instalment also seems to have had an
effect, with searches for New York increasing 62% in the year
to July 2012.
