Joy has been sewing since she was 7, involved in theatrical
costuming for local productions for 10 years and developed
her own costume hire business in which she was renowned for
her Victorian period costumes. She then became part of the
sewing team for the Lord Of The Rings movie costumes, then
finally moved to Dunedin and opened Je T'aime Bridal
Boutique.

Joy has that burning excitment and passion for designing
amazing gowns using her unique insights and sewing
techniques. She has that eye for detail that allows her to
transform a piece of fabric into a dream wedding gown.
Being in this business for this amount of time means that she
has an amazing insight into how brides-to-be think and is
always at hand to ensure they make smart decisions.
We asked Joy what are the most common mistakes new brides
make when shopping for a gown and she came up with three:
- Confusion over too many dress styles - girls are getting
confused with too many styles when good solid advice from an
expert is all that's needed to get a clearer idea of the tone
of the wedding so you can choose the right style.
- Ordering your dress too late - another big mistake is
ordering their gown too late as it takes around four months
to import a gown from overseas.
- Too many people involved in the decision making process -
while the advice of bridesmaids and mothers of the bride can
be useful, too many conflicting ideas can create a lot of
confusion.
Even though Joy loves making dresses she admits that service
is more important and views working with her clients as a
privilege.
"Every bride wants something out of the ordinary, coloured or
themed or just 'out there', these clients are the most fun to
work with", Joy said.
Joy from Je T'aime Bridal Boutique has had a lifetime full of
fashion and designing dresses and offers expert guidance and
of course an eclectic range of dresses with a new beautiful
range on the way (photos are at the top of this article).
