‘Community day’ for show

In its 134th year, the Palmerston Waihemo A&P Show is set to expand. For the first time, the Palmerston calendar highlight will spread over two days.

Kelly's Canter entry doubles

The number of entrants in Kelly's Canter yesterday at 103 was almost double the 53 who took part last year in the 4km run from the Palmerston Railway Station to the 393m summit of Puketapu and back This year's winner was Stafford Thompson, of Dunedin, in 21min 01sec. The first woman home was Sue Cuthbert, of Dunedin, in 27min 22sec.

More schools for Kelly's Canter

More schools have been invited to compete in Kelly's Canter this year. Usually pupils from East Otago High, Palmerston Primary, Flag Swamp and Waikouaiti Schools compete with a large number of adults in the long-standing event.
