Shops open in Port Chalmers on yesterday's public holiday enjoyed unexpected brisk trade as hundreds of cruise-ship passengers filled the town during a shortened visit.

A decision has been made to take down the mystery mural discovered in the Port Chalmers Garrison Hall.

This rower was rescued from Otago Harbour by Senior Constable Phil Beckwith, of Port Chalmers, who waded in waist-deep water to help him to shore.
