Listed Dunedin-based Scott Technology is one of 25 finalists
announced in the 2010 New Zealand International Business
Awards.
Developed by New Zealand Trade and Enterprise (NZTE) in
partnership with the private sector, the awards recognise New
Zealand business success around the world.
Scott Technology, alongside Metalform in Dannevirke and
Simcro in Hamilton, is in the category of Best Use of
Research and Development in International Business.
The winners will be announced in Auckland on October 13.
Scott Technology has three divisions: its joint venture meat
robotics project with Silver Fern Farms in Dunedin; its
mainstay assembly-line manufacturing in Christchurch; and
Rocklabs in Auckland, which has been manufacturing sample
processing machines for the mining industry for 40 years.
NZTE chief executive Peter Chrisp said the finalists were
some of New Zealand's "most innovative, nimble and determined
exporters".
"The past two years have been challenging. But the mix of
finalists shows that flexible approaches and an ability to
seek out niche opportunities can bring rewards, even in tough
times," he said in a statement yesterday.
Scott Technology, which has many long-term contracts in
United States dollars, posted a string of losses during the
recession.
However, in the past two years the group had returned
after-tax profits of $390,000 and $973,000 respectively.
Its full-year report is due shortly.
