The reshuffle of Telecom's divisions has resulted in the emergence of BlueCo, a company dedicated to providing mobile support for Gen-i - and Otago is a beneficiary of the restructure.

Gen-i client managers would still assess the accounts and needs of clients. BlueCo would provide support for sales, repairs and administration of mobile services.

BlueCo general manager Hamish Kibblewhite was in Dunedin this week to meet Otago-Southland Gen-i manager Peter Thomas and the BlueCo team which will work from the Gen-i building in Tennyson St.

Mr Kibblewhite manages a nationwide team of nine support people and another 15 people who provide general support for the Gen-i team in mobile sales and service.

In Dunedin, BlueCo has two sales support staff, two account managers and a business development manager, the same number as the Christchurch operation. Invercargill has one BlueCo support staff member.

The BlueCo development came from an evaluation of how support was provided to Gen-i, particularly from Telecom Orb shops. While all BlueCo shareholders were also Orb shareholders, some Orb shareholders elected not to become BlueCo shareholders, Mr Kibblewhite said. Some Orb stores would still operate under their own banner while BlueCo would work from Gen-i offices.

Mr Thomas said it was beneficial for the two organisations to work closely together from the same southern offices.

"This is an opportunity for Gen-i and BlueCo to lift the mobile services for our clients well beyond the purchase of handsets. We can provide a wide range of services for customers who want their enterprises connected with mobile technology," he said.
