One man's trash is another's treasure.

A huge pile of scrap metal was cleaned up in a weekend operation at Everitt Enterprises over the weekend.

Everitt Enterprises operations manager Richard Everitt said yesterday between 35 and 40 workers were needed to shift the 4500-tonne pile.

"It went really well and we ended up finishing the job ahead of schedule," Mr Everitt said.

"We started at 11am on Friday and worked right through to 3am this morning."

The scrap was destined for Korea, where it would be melted down and recycled, he said.
