Dunedin business TracMap may have been narrowly beaten during
the finals of the 2011 Global Security Challenge but the
international exposure gained was "huge", managing director
Colin Brown says.
TracMap developed the new GPS-based search and rescue system,
which allowed the most effective search patterns to be
created by aircraft, boats or land based vehicles,
significantly improving the accuracy of searching large
areas.
It won the regional small and medium enterprise award at the
Asia Pacific section of the Global Security Challenge in
Sydney in August, which qualified it for the global finals
alongside businesses from the UK, Europe, US and the Middle
East.
It was beaten last week in London, with the judges commenting
it was a close contest among the regional titleholders.
The small and medium enterprise winner was Spanish company
Agnitio SL, which developed voice recognition technology.
"It's been a massive week for us; the profile and reputation
we've gained from getting into the finals was considerable,
but we also got very positive feedback and made some
invaluable contacts from those attending, so the benefits
will be ongoing," Mr Brown said.
Founded by Mr Brown in 2005, TracMap has grown to export to
nine countries, including North America, Russia, South Africa
and Australia.
