Air New Zealand names new CEO

Air New Zealand has appointed Christopher Luxon as its next chief executive.

Chairman John Palmer said Luxon would take over from current chief executive Rob Fyfe at the end of December.

Christchurch-born Luxon is currently acting as group general manager International Airline, a role he has held since joining Air New Zealand in May, 2011.

Prior to this he worked for Unilever in North America, Asia and Australia, his most recent role as president and chief executive officer of Unilever's Canadian business.

Luxon will take over from Fyfe at the end of December.

Air New Zealand chairman John Palmer said Luxon brings a strong commercial and customer focus to the company.

"Christopher has world class strategic, commercial, leadership and stakeholder management capabilities proven across multiple markets.

"These have been highly evident to the Air New Zealand Board in the year that he has been with the company and we have seen him affect positive commercial outcomes in our toughest operating division."

Luxon said he felt privileged to be given the opportunity to further build the airline's commercial success.
