More signs are emerging about the weakening of the Otago
economy and the South Island in general taking a hit in the
three months ended June.

years but remains a staunch supporter of the Highlanders and
all things Otago. Business editor Dene Mackenzie talked to Dr
Krol during his recent trip to Dunedin.
Silver Fern Farms remains tight-lipped over suggestions a
Chinese-owned multinational is in the final stages of
negotiations to buy into the company.
Kiwibank rewarded its parent company, New Zealand Post, for
many years of investment by paying a maiden dividend of
$22million after reporting improved financial results in the
year ended June.
Mighty River Power's profit has tumbled 76% from a year ago,
after the electricity generator-retailer booked one-off
non-cash writedowns of $130million in exiting generation
assets or developments.
