Restaurant Brands up

KFC continues to be the generator of most sales and turnover for owner Restaurant Brands as the Starbucks Coffee chain continues to disappoint.

Restaurant Brands yesterday released its third-quarter sales, which showed total sales across the company's four brands - including Carl's Jr for the first time - were $72.2 million for the 12 weeks ended December 3, an increase of 0.5% or $300,000 on the previous corresponding period.

KFC total sales increased 0.5% in the quarter to $55.4 million, Pizza Hut sales increased 3.5% to $11.1 million and Starbucks sales fell nearly 7% to $5.7 million.

Carl's Jr sales generated $90,000 of sales in five days of trading of the Mangere outlet. A new outlet opened yesterday in Palmerston North.

KFC same store sales were up 1.2%. Starbucks had a same store decline of 2.8% but Pizza Hut saw a significant increase of 18.3%.

Year-to-date total sales were $238.9 million, up $600,000 or 0.2%. Year-to-date same store sales were up 1.3%, or $2.9 million, on the previous period.

At the end of the quarter, Restaurant Brands had a total of 179 stores, down 16 on the previous period.
