Air NZ names new chairman

Air New Zealand says Tony Carter will replace retiring chairman John Palmer when he steps down after the company's annual meeting in September.

The appointment follows a succession process that started two years ago when Palmer signalled that this would be his final term on the board.

Carter is currently chairman of Fisher and Paykel Healthcare and is a director of ANZ Bank New Zealand Ltd and Fletcher Building. He is a former managing director of Foodstuffs New Zealand.

Palmer has been chairman of Air New Zealand since 2001.
