SBS board appointment

Dunedin lawyer Anne McLeod has been appointed to the board of SBS Bank.

Otago was an important market for SBS and the bank was delighted Ms McLeod had accepted the position, chairman John Ward said.

As well as providing regional representation, she had considerable banking, business and legal expertise.

She also had sound knowledge of the industry which would enable her to make a ''significant contribution'' to both legal, governance and commercial aspects of SBS, Mr Ward said.

Ms McLeod said it was an exciting time to get involved as SBS grew and developed its business.

''SBS has a rich history, particularly in Otago and Southland, and it is great to see it becoming nationally competitive.

''I have strong links in the South and I am looking forward to the experience of being on the board,'' she said.

The appointment was made following the retirement of director Alec Neill, a Christchurch lawyer and former Waitaki MP.

Mr Ward thanked Mr Neill for his contribution, saying his legal background and business experience had been invaluable.
