Former directors standing again

Former directors of both Silver Fern Farms and Alliance Group are seeking election in this year's director elections.

Six nominations have been received for two vacancies on Alliance Group's board.

Long-serving directors Murray Donald, of Southland, and Doug Brown, of North Otago, are both standing down.

The candidates are Mark Adams (Fairlie), Stuart Baird (Winton), Gray Baldwin (Putaruru), Jared Collie (Dipton), Jason Miller (Southdown) and Ike Williams (Pleasant Point).

Mr Miller, a founding member of the Meat Industry Action Group, was elected to the board in 2007, but dumped by shareholders in director elections in 2013.

Four nominations have been received for one available position on the board of Silver Fern Farms, caused by the retirement of Angus Mabin, of Hawkes Bay.

Mr Mabin, who was appointed in 2007, retires by rotation and has decided not to stand for re-election.

Former director David Shaw, who farms at Clinton, is seeking election, along with Anthony O'Boyle (Manawatu), William Oliver (King Country) and Oliver Saxton (Waikato).

Mr Shaw was a director between 2006 and 2009, and then again from 2011 until 2013, when he was ousted.

Most recently, he expressed concerns about aspects around the process of the company's joint venture proposal with Chinese company Shanghai Maling, and also the timing of the transaction.

Voter packs in Alliance Group's election will be sent to shareholders on or before November 26 and voting closes on December 15.

The results will be announced at the company's annual meeting at the Opera House in Oamaru, on December 17.

Voting papers for Silver Fern Farms' election will be posted to eligible shareholders on November 26 and voting closes on December 11.

The results will be announced at, or before, the annual meeting on December 16.

Silver Fern Farms chairman Rob Hewett, who farms in the Manuka Gorge, has been elected a director of rural co-operative Farmlands.

Joe Ferraby (Marlborough) was the other successful candidate, while David Jensen was re-elected in the North Island election.

The co-operative held its annual meeting earlier this week, in New Plymouth.
