Foodstuff's purchase of 20 The Mill liquor stores has boosted the total number of its country-wide Liquorland branded outlets to 108.

The acquisition, for an undisclosed sum, was concluded this week and takes the national Liquorland footprint to 108 stores, with an additional 14 in the North Island and six in the South Island.

No positions at The Mill retail stores have been made redundant and staff have been offered employment contracts with Foodstuffs Liquor New Zealand Ltd, as the owner of Liquorland.

Foodstuffs (NZ) Ltd's managing director Steve Anderson said each store would move to a owner-operated, franchisee model, which is in place throughout the Liquorland network.

''As the franchisor, Liquorland remains responsible for support services to the store, including marketing and advertising support and IT services, meaning owners can focus solely on being a successful business within their local community,'' Mr Anderson said in a statement
