Passenger totals up 20%

Queenstown popularity as a destination is bounding along as combined domestic and international air visitor numbers have risen nearly 20%, at more than 1.65million for the year to date.

Monthly passenger numbers released by listed Auckland International Airport yesterday had Queenstown international passenger numbers up 19.3% at just under 475,000, and domestic visitors were up 17.5%, or by more than 1.17million.

International aircraft movements for June were up 21%, from 237 to 287, and domestic were up 4.4%, from 573 to 598 aircraft.

At Auckland Airport international numbers were up 9.8% to 696,271 and domestic up 14.8% to 621,576.

For the year to June, Auckland's total passenger numbers grew 9% to 17.3million.
