Telecom moves into Mobile TV

Telecom is entering the mobile television market through its new XT mobile network.

The service is free until November 30 for XT customers.

Exclusive content from TVNZ and MediaWorks will allow XT users to view shows like Two and a-Half Men and Outrageous Fortune along with new shows Fringe and The Mentalist.

Telecom Mobile spokesman Paul Taylor said yesterday the service had a feature that allowed customers to choose where they picked up on the action by dividing top-rating shows into bite-sized chapters.

"You don't have to watch the whole episode to find out what happened at the end. You can simply skip to the last chapter."

The ability to "snack" on favourite shows meant you could watch a couple of chapters on the way to work and finish the episode on the way home, he said.

Shows were uploaded to XT's Mobile TV service within 12 hours of airing and could be accessed via the TWorld section on a range of XT mobiles.

The speed of the 3G XT network gave high-quality viewing of the shows, Mr Taylor said.

Mobile TV was powered by QuickPlay Media which had considerable international success in delivering complete high-quality mobile television and video services.
