Up to four jobs could be lost at Dunedin exporter Farra
Engineering following cancellation of a $1.8 million contract
and the "recession in general", according to chief executive
John Whitaker.
When contacted yesterday, he confirmed up to four staff from
Farra's design and shop floor could be made redundant next
week, after the company had completed the redundancy process.
During the past 14 months, Farra had seen a more than 10%
financial downturn and staffing had been cut by 10 to 100.
Mr Whitaker said the latest redundancies were linked to both
the recession and $1.8 million cancellation for a building
maintenance unit for an Australian company.
He said the outlook for the year ahead was "still difficult
trading", however, there were several "good prospects" coming
up in the New Year which he hoped could become contracts.
