Frenchmen Stephane Peterhansel and Cyril Despres won the
Dakar Rally on Sunday, completing the final stage two weeks
after the race began in Argentina.
American driver Robby Gordon won the ninth leg of the Dakar
Rally on Tuesday, and French rival Stephane Peterhansel
finished second to maintain his overall lead in the car
category.
Defending champion Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar won the
weekend's seventh stage of the Dakar Rally with Stephane
Peterhansel of France finishing third and keeping the overall
lead.
Nasser Al-Attiyah of Qatar closed in on his first Dakar Rally
title when he won the 11th stage and sole rival Carlos Sainz
broke his right front suspension and lost more than an hour
on Thursday.
Defending champion Carlos Sainz won the ninth stage of the
Dakar Rally, chopping almost two minutes off the overall lead
of Volkswagen teammate Nasser Al-Attiyah on Tuesday.
Marc Coma in bikes and Nasser Al-Attiyah in cars built up
hefty leads after Wednesday's 10th stage of the Dakar Rally
to close in on the overall victory as the race returned to
Argentina ahead of the finish on Sunday in Buenos Aires.
