A forum to protest the Government's "many controversial
anti-conservation plans" will be held by Forest and Bird's
Dunedin branch tomorrow.
Branch spokesman Emeritus Prof Sir Alan Mark said the
organisation was shocked by the Government's determination to
overturn longstanding protection for New Zealand's treasured
places.
"Not only is it proposing to open up more than 7000ha of the
highest-quality public conservation lands for mining, but it
also overnight destroyed the equivalent national park
protection process for Canterbury's rivers," Prof Mark said.
The forum will be held at the University of Otago's zoology
building, starting at 7.30pm.
