Tourism resignation

Tourism Dunedin will reassess its Sydney office following the resignation of its Australian-based business development manager.

Heather Mollins had resigned to begin a new role with a public relations company, Tourism Dunedin chief executive Hamish Saxton confirmed.

Ms Mollins had worked in the role since March 2009.

The position involved liaising with travel and airline companies in an effort to boost business for Dunedin tourism operators, and exploring public relations opportunities.

Ms Mollins had "done a great job", but her resignation had prompted a rethink over the future of the Sydney office, Mr Saxton said.

Possible options include retaining the office, pulling out of Australia completely, moving the position to Brisbane to capitalise on the increased frequency of international flights between the two cities, or outsourcing the role, he said.

The matter had yet to be discussed with the Tourism Dunedin board.

Ms Mollins would attend a tourism conference in Auckland this week with Tourism Dunedin staff, before finishing her role next month.
