Although it was the first time Phil's Painters Ltd had entered the national competition, manager Steve Keogh said the business won the residential and new interior category, the residential and new exterior category, and was runner-up in the residential rework interior (restoration) category.
"When we saw some of the projects from other competitors, we didn't feel confident.
There was some pretty impressive stuff."
Mr Keogh was delighted with the success.
"Painters are painters, and there's generally not much recognition for them. It's great to be recognised."
He said the Dunedin company's experience had been a significant factor in its winning.
"Between [company director] Phil Leyden and myself, we've got nearly 50 years' experience.
"The business has been around for about 25 years."
However, Mr Keogh said winning was a team effort, and the business' 11 painters had all contributed.
