Dr Samuel Mann
Two more candidates have emerged to challenge for a seat
at the Dunedin City Council table, under the umbrella of the
Greater Dunedin ticket.
Dr Samuel Mann, an associate professor at Otago Polytechnic,
and Lynn Tozer, a senior lecturer at the University of Otago,
were yesterday announced as the latest Greater Dunedin
candidates in local body elections in October.
The pair join council and mayoral candidate Cr Dave Cull and
fellow council incumbents Crs Kate Wilson and Chris Staynes
on the ticket, as well as challenger Richard Thomson, the
former chairman of the Otago District Health Board.
Dr Mann said, when contacted, he wanted to end "piecemeal"
decision-making by the council, and create opportunities for
people - including his three children - to stay in Dunedin.
Mrs Tozer, a former holder of a Fulbright Scholarship, taught
curriculum mathematics at the University of Otago's College
of Education and is a former primary school teacher and
deputy principal, and a mother of four.
She was "passionate" about Dunedin as a place to live, but
felt "the recent direction of the council hasn't been in the
interest of all ratepayers".
