A man who asked police to find his missing car was later
charged with drink-driving.
Senior Sergeant Bruce Ross said an "intoxicated" man visited
the Dunedin Police Station at 7.30am yesterday, saying his
car was missing from where he had parked it the previous
night.
"He said someone had pinched his car and he wanted to make a
complaint."
The man, who was in his early 20s, said he had been out
drinking all night and maintained he was not intending to
drive home.
Struggling to provide details about his car registration or
about where and what time he had parked the car, the man was
told to go home and sober up before lodging his complaint.
Thirty minutes later, police were called to a Wakari address
following a complaint from a young woman that the same man
was outside her front door annoying her.
Snr Sgt Ross said it appeared the man had found his missing
car and driven it to the property.
The man was processed for drink-driving after recording twice
the legal limit, and would appear in the Dunedin District
Court this month.
"He gets the dumb prize of the week."
