Autospectacular impresses

The sheer variety of petrol-driven enthusiasts' clubs was a feature of the 2008 Autospectacular at the Edgar Centre, Dunedin, on Saturday.

From those with a penchant for vintage Japanese motorcycles to those crazy about Vauxhalls, Ford Falcons or Fairlanes, all were catered for.

Event publicity officer Richard Stedman said 250 vehicles were presented at the show.

And with some classic machines on display, Mr Stedman agreed a future without oil would be a lesser place.

The show was first held about 30 years ago, he said, and gave the 40 or so clubs represented, the majority from Otago, an opportunity to show off their vehicles.

Between 4500 and 5000 people attended Saturday's show.

It raised money for Dunedin Marine Search and Rescue.
