The third giant steel roof truss has been lifted into
position at the Forsyth Barr Stadium site in Dunedin, leaving
just two more to go.
The 105m-long truss - weighing 129 tonnes - was hoisted by
cranes yesterday morning, after being moved into position
late last week, a Dunedin Venues Management Ltd spokeswoman
said.
Workers would spend the next few days bolting and welding the
truss in place.
Together, the five trusses were designed to span the gap
between the stadium's north and south stands and hold the
indoor venue's ethylenetetrafluoroethylene (ETFE) roof in
place.
Carisbrook Stadium Trust chairman Malcolm Farry said
yesterday the exact timetable for lifting the final two
trusses would be confirmed in a report to the council's
finance and strategy meeting next week.
