More Dunedin stand-by tickets in the wind

More stand-by flights will be offered out of Dunedin International Airport in the future, after the Air New Zealand scheme ended last month.

The airline trialled student stand-by fares in September last year and again earlier this year, before extending them to all travellers out of Dunedin for a three-month period which ended last month.

Under the deal, intending travellers could book a $59 stand-by fare to Christchurch, Wellington or Auckland, and would be notified 20 minutes before departure if a ticket was available.

Air New Zealand commercial general manager Jeff McDowall said the Dunedin stand-by tickets proved popular when offered over a "particular travel period" and would be used again.
