All but one return filed

Electoral spending by Southern District Health Board candidates for the October elections was well below the $70,000 limit, the filed returns show.

With one of the 22 returns still outstanding, the highest amount remains that declared by unsuccessful Otago candidate Christopher Marlow ($9446.48).

Unsuccessful candidate, former general manager of planning and funding for the Otago District Health Board, Chris Fraser, and successful candidate, Balclutha GP, Dr Branko Sijnja, were among six candidates who filed a return showing nil expenses.

Of the six returns not previously reported, successful Central Otago candidate Dr Malcolm Macpherson spent the most ($3232.19), but this amount involved combined spending on his unsuccessful mayoral campaign.

Unsuccessful Southland candidate Alison Wilden was one of only two candidates to declare donations - $300 from Colin and Carol Renouf and $200 from Jim and Joan Simpson.

Her total spending was $1038.

Other amounts were. - Otago: Paul Douglas $2841; Graham Roper $732.72 (both unsuccessful).
