Officers still suspended

Police have declined to comment on whether the two police officers convicted of assault last year will retain their jobs.

Constables Brenton Rooney and Duncan Hollebon were found guilty of assaulting a man in February 2009 while they were trying to restrain him.

A disciplinary hearing into serious misconduct for the two Dunedin policemen was held late last year.

When asked yesterday if the men had retained their jobs, Southern police district operations manager Inspector Lane Todd said an employment process was being worked through.

The officers, who are appealing their convictions, have been suspended on full pay for 23 months.
