Representatives for subcommittee

A Dunedin City Council subcommittee that hands out more than $800,000 a year to community groups is looking for four community representatives with knowledge in the area of arts and events in the city.

Each triennium, the council replaces the representatives, who council community adviser Paul Coffey said both benefited the city with their knowledge and "learned a lot about the city" during their tenure.

The community assistance subcommittee is made up of four elected councillors, an iwi-appointed representative, two community representatives, and separate events and arts representatives.

Representatives are appointed for a three-year term and assist the committee in making informed decisions.

The council was looking for people with a good knowledge of the arts and the events areas, and who had access to networks.

The committee meets twice a year to disburse $836,600.

Members were paid $205 a meeting in the last triennium.

There were usually about 100 grants in each round for what Mr Coffey said was a "vast" range of groups the city supported, and there was a large amount of reading and evaluation before each meeting.

Nominations close on March 2.
