A Dunedin man who stole a 21-inch LCD television from The
Warehouse in South Dunedin was caught red-handed when he
returned to the store to steal an aerial to go with it,
police say.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown, of Dunedin, said the 35-year-old
visited the store six times on Friday evening, and he was
noticed by security staff on the sixth visit when he left
with a television aerial without paying.
The man left but was stopped by police on Hillside Rd soon
afterwards.
The aerial was found, along with the television set, in the
back of his car.
The incident showed the value of security cameras and
watchful staff at the store, Snr Sgt Brown said.
"He's not the sharpest tool in the shed. He should have quit
while he was ahead."
The man was charged with theft and will appear in the Dunedin
District Court later this week.
