Contractors continue their work this week to expand the Caversham motorway, Dunedin, into four lanes.

The work is stage one of the two-stage project, which started in December. Stage one is expected to take between 20 and 24 months to complete, at a cost of $19.5 million, and will result in State Highway 1 from the King Edward St overbridge to Barnes Dr turning into four lanes.

It also includes a new two-lane bridge at the Glen and an extension of the Goodall St footbridge. This work is expected to start in May.

The total cost of both stages of the project is between $20 million and $45 million. The New Zealand Transport Association has launched a website providing information about the project, http://www.nzta.govt.nz/projects/caversham-highway/.
