Proulx talk full

United States journalist and author Annie Proulx has had her Dunedin free talk next week booked out - before it was even advertised.

"The response has been overwhelming and the 120-seat event officially `sold out' this week ahead of planned promotions and newspaper articles," Dunedin Public Libraries marketing co-ordinator Lynette Hartgill said.

Proulx (75) won the 1994 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction for her novel, The Shipping News. Her short story, Brokeback Mountain, was adapted into a movie, winning three Academy Awards, four Baftas and four Golden Globes in 2005.

The author, based in Norwich, Connecticut, was originally to speak in Christchurch, but the lecture was transferred to Dunedin Central Library after the Christchurch earthquake.

People attending the event next Thursday would have the opportunity to donate to the Red Cross Appeal for Christchurch earthquake victims.
