Council coy on DCHL meeting

Dunedin Mayor Dave Cull refuses to say why the council is meeting behind closed doors next week to discuss Dunedin City Holdings Ltd (DCHL).

The extraordinary meeting will be on Monday afternoon, and DCHL, managing body for the city's six trading companies, is the sole agenda item.

Mr Cull last night said he could neither divulge the reason for the meeting, nor say why the public was excluded, because "that would tell you what the meeting's about".

The agenda listing reads only "Dunedin City Holdings Ltd matters".

Deputy mayor Cr Chris Staynes said the meeting did not relate to company capacity to pay a dividend towards stadium debt, an issue that has recently caused tension behind the scenes, and sometimes in public.

Cr Staynes said a public announcement was likely reasonably soon after the meeting was concluded.

The meeting was behind closed doors because the matters had "financial implications".

He did not think anyone would be greatly surprisedby the announcement.
