More FM wins awards

More FM Dunedin has won two national awards for the "Save Our Neurosurgery" campaign it ran last year.

At the New Zealand Radio Awards this week it picked up the extended campaign or contribution prize, along with that for the one-off community campaign in the outstanding community campaigns category.

Cindy Davis, general manager of the station's owner, Mediaworks, attributed the win to the combined efforts of staff, the Otago Daily Times and the people of Dunedin, who had rallied strongly in support of the campaign.

• The Otago Daily Times and The Southland Times joined forces on a major campaign on the issue, called "It's a No-Brainer".

This included organising public meetings and a petition, which attracted more than 55,000 signatories, and involvement in a protest march, which attracted thousands.

A "Keep Neurosurgery in Dunedin" Facebook campaign site also had a high profile in the campaign.
