Anne Tolley.
A petition calling for Forbury School to remain open has
attracted more than 7500 signatures and will be presented in
Parliament today.
Last month, Education Minister Anne Tolley announced it was
likely Macandrew Intermediate and Forbury Schools would merge
as a years 1-8 primary school on the Macandrew site.
She also announced it was likely Caversham, College Street
and Calton Hill Schools would also merge as a years 1-8
school on the Caversham site, with a campus on the Calton
Hill site.
A large group of vocal protesters marched up George St late
last month, pleading for Mrs Tolley to see the value in
Forbury School and keep it open.
Forbury principal Janice Tofia said the petition began about
the same time, and 7777 signatures had been collected.
"The petition calls for Forbury School to remain on site and
in its entirety.
"Hopefully, it will help Mrs Tolley in her decision making,
and show her there is support in Dunedin for Forbury School
to remain on site," Mrs Tofia said.
Dunedin South MP Clare Curran will present the petition to
the House in Wellington today.
