Matanaka site reopens

The historic Matanaka farm buildings at Waikouaiti have reopened to the public.

They were closed in May after severe northwest winds brought down trees in the car park area and along the track leading to the buildings on the first farm in Otago.

New Zealand Historic Places Trust property manager Paula East said the site was closed as a precautionary measure to ensure public safety.

Now the trees had been cleared, the public were free to visit the site during daylight hours until August 12, when the property would be closed for the lambing season, she said.
