Colourful character Dr Glam sparkles on stage at Otago
Girls' High School during library day yesterday.
His audience, who dressed up as their favourite book
characters, included a smattering of cows, Red Riding Hoods
and several girls with dragon tattoos.
Dr Glam, alias University of Otago lecturer Ian Chapman, used
the opportunity to encourage pupils to be themselves and not
put with bullying.
He said he lost confidence after being bullied as a child,
and only regained it when he developed the character of Dr
Glam.
"Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of becoming an author or
a rock star. It was what I knew I wanted to be."
Although he was aware not everyone could develop an alter
ego, he hoped he could encourage more confidence in young
people.
"Don't put up with bullying. Do something about it. Never
give up on your dream, because you are unique."
