Dunedin artists were highly successful in the Otago Art
Society's 2011 Edinburgh Premier Art Awards at the Art Station
at the weekend.
The annual art competition drew 170 entries from around the
South Island.
Rod Eales won the $3000 first prize with her acrylic work,
Taking Time, at the awards opening on Saturday night.
Judge Chris Collins, of Grays Studio, described the winning
painting as "a thoughtful, deeply meditative and provocative
work".
Results were:First ($3000), Rod Eales, Dunedin, Taking
Time; second ($2000), Jasmine Middlebrook, Dunedin,
And All That Was Left; third ($1000), Alf Berland,
Dunedin, Contemplation; merit ($500 each), Hannah
Joynt, Dunedin, The Boy with the Birds, and Nancy
McLennan, Dunedin, Otago Harbour from Highcliff Rd;
Edinburgh Realty Award ($500), Janet Hulland, Campin'.
