Southern Primary Health Organisation has taken issue with a statement that it could have applied to use leftover funds for health services.

Well Dunedin Health Trust chief executive Sandy Baines was reported in yesterday's Otago Daily Times saying the super PHO did not apply to use the leftover funds for Dunedin health projects, so the trust would seek applications from the community.

The trust has between $720,000 and $780,000 to distribute from when it operated as Well Dunedin PHO.

The trust's deed stipulates the money must be used to benefit Dunedin residents' health.

Southern PHO chief executive Ian Macara said he had understood the trust would use the priorities in the super PHO's clinical plan to inform the selection criteria for distributing the money. The super PHO was looking forward to working with the former PHO to ensure the funds were appropriately distributed, he said.

Well Dunedin was one of nine PHOs that combined to form Southern PHO.
