A 21-year-old student remains in an induced coma at Dunedin
Hospital after an alleged early-morning assault yesterday.
The incident took place at 1.45am outside the Dental School
in Great King St, Detective Sergeant Dave Nelson said.
A verbal altercation between two groups occurred before
the alleged assault, he said.
University of Otago Campus Watch intervened and detained a
19-year-old man until police arrived.
Det Sgt Nelson confirmed both men involved were from Dunedin,
and were unknown to each other.
Police were yet to talk to the victim, who was in an induced
coma in a stable condition in hospital last night.
The other man would appear in the Dunedin District Court on
Thursday on an assault-related charge, Det Sgt Nelson said.
Anyone who witnessed the incident was urged to contact
Dunedin Police on (03) 471-4800.
