Prospective Dunedin MPs are to feature in a series of radio
election debates being hosted by the Otago Polytechnic.
The public election forums will be broadcast live on Otago
Access Radio's Sustainable Lens programme, a
polytechnic spokeswoman said yesterday.
All local electoral candidates have been invited to take part
in the four-part series, which will focus on the role of
sustainability in New Zealand's future.
Otago Polytechnic information technology associate professor
Samuel Mann, who is also a regular Sustainable Lens
panellist, said the debates would be open to anyone and
audience members would also be invited to question the
candidates about their policies.
The polytechnic had organised the forums to enable the public
to become better informed about the views and policies of
those people vying to become MPs, Prof Mann said. "We want
this to be a community conversation." The first of the forums
are to take place between 7pm and 9pm on four consecutive
Thursdays at Room 106 of the polytechnic's G Block in Union
St East from October 27.
Dunedin South candidates are first up, followed by Maori
electorate candidates for Te Tai Tonga, Dunedin list
hopefuls, then Dunedin North.
