Hospital lockdown goes on as more fall sick

Dunedin Hospital continues to be locked down as more patients and hospital staff fall ill with norovirus-like symptoms.

Another 14 staff and four patients have become ill with the symptoms of the highly contagious virus since 9am on Sunday, bringing the total number of affected people to 75.

Outpatient clinics, elective surgery and planned admissions will be postponed again tomorrow.

More than 800 people were affected by postponements today and hospital staff are attempting to contact more than 800 people who will be affected tomorrow postponements.

Restrictions on visitors to the hospital continue with only hospital staff bearing identification and visitors when there were exceptional circumstances allowed in.

Visits to Waikari Hospital have also been restricted.

Hospital operations manager Megan Boivin said the restrictions would be removed as soon as the situation is under control.
