DCC cuts subsidy for staff Christmas parties

Christmas cheer is off the Dunedin City Council agenda this year, with chief executive Paul Orders confirming the end of a $50-a-head staff subsidy towards Christmas parties.

The news has filtered through to the Otago Daily Times from council staff that their celebrations this year would be unsubsidised.

Despite the decision, Mr Orders said he was keen to ensure staff had a good time at Christmas.

"I'll be shouting a few drinks," he said.

Human resources manager Bruce Miller said the bonus was introduced just last year by former chief executive Jim Harland.
