Port Chalmers Kindergarten pupils went from old school to
new school yesterday. The township's new kindergarten
officially welcomed its young charges for the first time.
"We're absolutely stoked. It's like a humungous early
Christmas present," head teacher Julie Peters said.
"All the children were very, very excited to come to kindy
today."
The kindergarten had been in temporary premises in Albertson
Ave since the old kindergarten was demolished on July 1.
"This new one is purpose-built and everything flows. The
indoors and outdoors flows really well and supervision is
much easier."
The kindergarten had a roll of 30 children, Ms Peters said.
"But, we're looking at 40 for next year. We have a very heavy
waiting list."
