Dunedin care workers protest 1.72% pay offer

Radius Fulton Care Centre workers staged a protest in Dunedin yesterday over the latest pay offer.

About 20 Service and Food Workers Union (SFWU) and New Zealand Nurses Organisation (NZNO) members attended the stopwork meeting and picket, in Hillside Rd, protesting a 1.72% wage offer.

Union members at 19 Radius care homes across New Zealand walked off the job for two hours.

Members have also complained they were prevented from wearing union-themed ribbons at work.

When contacted Radius managing director Brien Cree sympathised with workers, who did deserve more pay, but said it was a Government funding issue.

He also said union members must abide by uniform requirements while at work.

He also rejected union claims that Radius had not properly settled wage rounds in previous years through not passing on Government funding increases.
