Hundreds of people shared Christmas dinner at charity lunches in Dunedin and Mosgiel yesterday.

Now in its second year, the Mosgiel community christmas lunch is organised by Mosgiel RSA, East Taieri Church, and the Taieri Ministers' Association. About 100 people attended yesterday, similar to last year, East Taieri Church community facilitator Joy Davis said.

RSA members enjoyed mingling with the family groups and others who attended the lunch.

Organisers had initially been a little unsure how the various groups would mix, but it worked very well, Mrs Davis said.

About 270 attended the St Andrew St Church of Christ community lunch, probably the biggest turnout in its 23-year history, the Rev David Brown said. The event was a great success.

Volunteers, including members of the Fire Service, greatly enjoyed themselves. Organisers delivered a small number of meals to people's homes, he said.
