A staged upgrade of Dunedin City Council-owned flats is
starting up again next week, as part of a project to insulate
and re-roof about 328 units around the city.
DCC housing manager Sharron Tipa said about $1 million had
been budgeted during the current financial year for the
project, which is timed to be completed by June.
About 155 council flats will be re-roofed and have new
insulation installed, while another 173 will receive
subsidies from the New Zealand Energy Efficient and
Conservation Authority equalling about 30% of insulation
expenses.
The council is in the second year of a planned five-year
upgrade of its housing estate, with a total of about $5
million allocated to the project, she said.
DCC capital expenditure on community housing for the 2011-12
financial year would be about $1.45 million, Ms Tipa said.
A block of the council's residential flats in Victoria Rd is
first in line to be upgraded by contractors and several other
housing units around the city will follow.
A block of 57 council units in Fitzroy St, 26 flats in Acacia
Ave, 31 units in Bradshaw St and 17 residences in Cutten St
were all scheduled to be upgraded by June, Ms Tipa said.
